Howard Decker has made a distinguished career in architecture, land-use planning, and public transportation. Since moving to Rochester in 2009, he has explored his new home town through images and history, seeking the details of how this city evolved from the robust urbanism ca. 1910 to the damaged and vulnerable condition it suffers today. In this address, he explores the patterns and results of this transition, the challenges it imposes to an energy-starved future, and strategies for a return to sustainable density and livable urbanity. Mr. Decker maintains the blog A Town Square at heckeranddecker.wordpress.com.
